101 Training Tips for Your Cat
Train Cats? Yes, it is possible, with expert help. Using new research that has revealed the reasons for the fascinating natural behavior of cats, a veterinarian explains in 101 Training Tips For You Cat the do's and don'ts of relating to a cat, as well as the simple steps that will stop misbehavior quickly, easily, and lovingly. A cat can learn to come, six, fetch, walk on a leash, use a toilet, stop scratching furniture, and more. In short, a cat, that most untrainable of creatures, can in fact be trained. in101 Training Tips For Your Dog, a professional dog trainer explains how to work with a pet's inborn abilities and characteristics to eliminate bad behavior and make life happier on both ends of the leash. Topics covered include the pack behavior that rules dogs' reactions, the importance of establishing who exactly is top dog, choosing raise and correction over punishment, and stopping misbehavior. Now even an old dog can be taught to come, sit, stay, exercise alongside a bike, wait before exiting doors, and to stop jumping on people, chewing rugs, and biting.

This is a good little handbook, especially for the novice cat owner. I found it very informative on all sorts of stuff, from daily cat care to behaviour problems. However I do find the title a bit misleading. I originaly bought the book because the title made me think it was a book on cat-training. Some training is mentioned but the book is not really about conditioning and learning psychology. If that's what you're looking for find something else.

When a friend of mine offered me an orphan cat I told him I knew nothing about cats. In fact, the first question I asked was how to train her to use a litter box. That gives you an idea of how low my cat database was. I went to the petstore the night before picking up my new kitty and scanned several cat books. This book seemed very user friendly and full of really practical tips. I bought it and read it cover to cover over the next couple of weeks as my cat and I learned about each other. It answered virtually all of my questions. If you are looking for a first primer on how to take care of and understands cats, this is the book for you.
